November 16 is the Night of Hecate & also my birthday & this really describes me. Everyday i try to embody the spirit of the goddess.....
its kind of crazy to me how much this helps me understand myself & how i interact w/ others

THE GODDESS HECATE

As a triple Goddess, Hecate represents Maiden, Mother and Crone; mind, body and spirit; and birth, life and death. As Mistress of the Night, She represents the three stages of the lunar cycle of New, Full and Dark. Hecate symbolizes the dark within us, the part of our psyche we refuse to acknowledge. Many ignore the wisdom, the strength and the truth of Hecate because our fear of the darkness is so strong. Hecate is associated with the dark side of the moon, but this is the true Moon. The Moon has no light of its own, only reflected light from the sun. Dark is the Moon's true color as is Hecate's. Although most see Hecate as the third phase of the moon, She is actually a Triple Goddess in her own right. She is Hecate the maiden, Hecate the Mother, and Hecate the Crone. Hecate can be called upon during any moon phase, as She is the One and the Three. In pronouncing her name, in the Greek language the "H" is silent. So, to properly pronounce her name is "E-CA-TA" or "e-CO-ta."

In Her maiden aspect, she stands for new beginnings. She can also be called upon when you need to look at something in a new, fresher way....a way that you have never looked at it before. You turn to Her when the moon begins to first wax. In Her Mother aspect is a time to turn to Her when you need nurturing and protection like any mother would give. Turn to Her when the Moon is Full. In Her Crone aspect, it is a time to turn to for protection, wisdom and magick. However, please bear in mind that Hecate is not a Goddess full of tenderness and compassion with white lace and linen. She is also more prone to be stern with you if you brought a situation upon yourself. However, Her wrath is swift and just to those who cause harm to a follower of Hers, because those who seek Her, honor Her and do not fear Her are in Her protection and She does not take lightly to those who cause them harm. She does not tolerate nor does She coddle. Turn to another Goddess if you seek this. Her actions are swift and without frills. So, when you do call upon Her, be prepared for Her swift actions and changes because it might not be what you expected.

Hecate teaches us an important lesson, which is that the feminine should be valued for itself, not because it brings sexuality or power, but because deep within it there is an eternal wisdom. Hecate is also the High Priestess, the keeper of the Mysteries. Hecate is not the priestess who seeks the inner knowledge, but High Priestess who has found it and imparts it to others.

Hecate, who sits enthroned before the Veil of the Temple as the High Priestess, the card in the Tarot which is ruled by the Moon. To reach daylight on the other side of the Veil, we must all become at one with the Dark Mother of the night. Whether it be Hecate guarding the home or of the temple, She will avert evil and provides protection.

The Goddess Hecate is also known as the liberator of women, as she sets women free from the bonds created by man. That is why the Christian Church put Hecate down and created her as the Goddess of evil and destruction. During Medieval times, pagans were being tortured based on their belief in the Goddess. Patriarchy reigned and the fear of feminine power caused the Church to demonize Hecate. She was made infamous as the crone; old, wrinkled, ugly, warts protruding from her nose and chin, mysterious, dark and loathsome. Many mistakenly call Her the destroyer, but She is not for if you destroy something, that something is forever gone. You cannot bring something back that has been destroyed. It has been said that the Goddess's service is perfect freedom. She is the liberator because She is manifest in our deepest drives and emotions, which always and inevitably threaten the systems designed to contain them. She is love and anger, which refuse to fit comfortably into the social order. To be "free from slavery" once meant that, within the ritual circle, all were equal, whether they were peasant, serf, or noble in the outside world. Slavery today could be mental and emotional as well as physical: the slavery of fixed perceptions, of conditioned ideas, of blind beliefs, of fear. Witchcraft demands intellectual freedom and the courage to confront our own assumptions. It is not a belief system: it is a constantly self-renewed attitude of joy and wonder to the world. Hecate enforces feminine independence from masculine influences and this deals in all things including the religion known as Wicca. Wicca is heavily influenced by the male God. The Sabbats are centered around the male God. The word Wicca is a male term....a term connected to the Goddess religion.

In today's society, we hide our elderly (or look right through them as if they do not exist) our sick, and our poor so we can pretend to be immune to such human conditions. But Hecate reminds us of the truth. She sees through the facade of societal amenities. She is not deceived by social standing, education or titles and wealth. Instead, She is impressed only by what is in the heart! She is patroness to those of the heart.

Hecate originally was a Thracian and pre-Olympian Goddess. Zeus bowed down to her antiquity by granting to Hecate alone a power shared by Zeus, that of withholding from humanity anything she wished. He also "granted" her the powers of the heavens, on Earth and the underworld......as if She did not have these powers already! He gave her nothing of that which She did not already have. Of all the Goddesses, she was the most markedly triple and the most complex. She was Goddess of the Wild Hunt. She was to Greeks and Romans, especially the Goddess of the crossroads. Statutes of Her stood there, and food offerings –"Hecate's Supper" – were taken there at dead of night, on the eve of the full Moon. Her annual festival on August 13 was a propitiatory one, to avert the harvest-destroying storms which the Moon is apt to send at around that time. She also haunted graveyards and the scenes of crimes–as a goddess of expiration and purification.

Hecate is the Darksome Mother, in both the positive and in the negative sense. To those that dare to welcome Her, she brings creative inspiration. She is Hecate Antea, the Sender of Nocturnal Vision, and, typically of a Moon Goddess. She is Hecate Trivia, Goddess of the Crossroads.

One of her symbols is the torch, for the Dark Mother also holds the light which illuminates the Unconscious and reveals its treasures. With Her torches she guides those who are seeking the mysteries. The light from these torches will lead those wishing to understand the mysteries.

In the Tarot, She is the Threes and the High Priestess; Her gems are star sapphire, pearl, moonstone, and crystal; Plants are the yew tree, cypress, opium, poppy, almond, mugwort, hazel, moonwort, civet, menstrual blood, camphor, garlic, aloes, all sweet virginal odors; Tools are the cauldron, the besom, knives, the key; animals are the dogs and horses, black cats. The owl is Her messenger. Her chariot is pulled by dragons. Hecate's colors are silver and black.

Through Hecate's Cauldron, we must look at our true self, the nature of our motives and the results of our actions, because only through Her cauldron can we truly be reborn in becoming a better person than we were before. Only when we look into Her dark cauldron can we see the light.

Hecate, and none but She, is Queen of all living things. It is through Her that all things live or die. She is the laughing maiden, the living mother, and the black hag of death. She is the three and the one. She smiles and the radiance of the moon, whether it be full or dark, is everywhere for there is no power like Her power and no living thing can withstand Her power. For She is anticipation. She is the fulfillment. She is death. Hear her words, children, worship and be glad for if you seek Her, She is with you always. She was with you in the beginning and shall be with you at the end.

Days of Hecate are August 13 which She is honored and prayed to in order to not send fearce thunderstorms and ruin and the crops. November 16 is the Night of Hecate which begins at sunset. This is the night of Hecate's supper and animals were sacrificed in honor of Her. November 30 is Hecate-Trivia--the day of the Crossroads. The 29th of each month is the Moon of Hecate.

wow, what a great weekend.

thank you salt river for showing us mad love.
really enjoyed the event and seeing all the faces of the community
it makes me really happy when someone comes by and says "cool"
my heart feels lighter seeing kids run around just happy to be in the moment
grand entry today was super awesome. i know ur not really supposed to take video but these kids were just too awesome and out there killing it

we scored some awesome peyote stitched bracelets from AZ TSoul love em!

lol our booth was just in the the most akward spot in the middle of everything
hahah it was so funny, but totally our style. so we were loving it hahaha
and cracking up the whole time

i like when we are setting up how the announcer just will talk about all kinds of stuff, i appreciate it. i like to listen, he will say some really good stuff about life. gives people something to think about. and then it brings about this amazing charismatic energy that builds up all day and by night fall its just awesome and totally intense. i love it.
it was also great to see friends, vibe out, feel the goodness & be in the moment
something to do more often. definitely.

....so grateful for my girls....love u guys!

happy halloween....this guy over here is eyeing my treats a lil too hard!

i love halloween, to me its a day to have fun & to honor our ancestors,
i think living a good life & doing it well is the best way to do that
those that came before did not want us to suffer and be sad they're gone
life is about enjoying the expierence and remembering our personal truths
i'm sure growth was always a goal & i'm sure they'd be more happy to know
we learned from their mistakes, became stronger and made moves forward
rather than staying stagnant or becoming degenerate in the sorrow of their absence
hah and thats where the trick or treat comes in. if u lived a good life
u will have a good sense of humor and you can enjoy the holiday, but if
you've been dishonest and living in denial ur perception will naturally
take everything in wrong and you will hate it....so if u feel offended
take it as a wonderful chance for you to check yourself before the holidays,
you might have some anger or control issues to work out do before being around family
towards the end of the year thats what people do, gravitate back to family,
when its cold out we like comfort, love & food, plus i'm tired i dunno about u but
i been grinding all summer its time for a break. rest is under-rated in america and so is paying homage to our ancestors,
seems like a logical first step to me....
death is a part of life, halloween reminds us of that
its just the unknown thats scary

u start digging a hole and then you sift the big rocks out

What it means to love Oneself and accept Oneself

It's a strange phenomenon how difficult people find it to love themselves. One would think it is the easiest thing in the world, because we're constantly concerned with ourselves. We're always interested in how much we can get, how well we can perform, how comfortable we can be. The Buddha mentioned in a discourse that "oneself is dearest to oneself." So with all that, why is it so difficult to actually love oneself?
Loving oneself certainly doesn't mean indulging oneself. Really loving is an attitude towards oneself that most people don't have, because they know quite a few things about themselves which are not desirable. Everybody has innumerable attitudes, reactions, likes and dislikes which they'd be better off without. Judgment is made and while one likes one's positive attitudes, one dislikes the others. With that comes suppression of those aspects of oneself that one is not pleased with. One doesn't want to know about them and doesn't acknowledge them. That's one way of dealing with oneself, which is detrimental to growth. Another unskillful way is to dislike that part of oneself which appears negative and every time it arises one blames oneself, which makes matters twice as bad as they were before. With that comes fear and very often aggression. If one wants to deal with oneself in a balanced way, it's not useful to pretend that the unpleasant part doesn't exist, those aggressive, irritable, sensual, conceited tendencies. If we pretend we are far from reality and put a split into ourselves. Even though such a person may be totally sane, the appearance given is that of not being quite real. We've all come across people like that, who are too sweet to be true, as a result of pretense and suppression. Blaming oneself doesn't work either. In both instances one transfers one's own reactions to other people. One blames others for their deficiencies, real or imagined, or one doesn't see them as ordinary human beings. Everyone lives in an unreal world, because it's ego-deluded, but this one is particularly unreal, because everything is considered either as perfectly wonderful or absolutely terrible.
The only thing that is real is that we have six roots within us. Three roots of good and three roots of evil. The latter are greed, hate and delusion, but we also have their opposites: generosity, loving-kindness and wisdom. Take an interest in this matter. If one investigates this and doesn't get anxious about it, then one can easily accept these six roots in everybody. No difficulty at all, when one has seen them in oneself. They are the underlying roots of everyone's behavior. Then we can look at ourselves a little more realistically, namely not blaming ourselves for the unwholesome roots, not patting ourselves on the back for the wholesome ones, but rather accepting their existence within us. We can also accept others more clear-sightedly and have a much easier time relating to them.
We will not suffer from disappointments and we won't blame, because we won't live in a world where only black or white exists, either the three roots of unwholesomeness or their opposites. Such a world doesn't exist anywhere, and the only person to be like that is an Arahant. It's largely a matter of degree in everyone else. These degrees of good and evil are so finely tuned, there's so little difference within the degrees in each one of us, that it really doesn't matter. Everybody has the same job to do, to cultivate the wholesome tendencies and uproot the unwholesome ones.
Apparently we're all very different. That too is an illusion. We're all having the same problems and also the same faculties to deal with them. The only difference is the length of training that one has had. Training which may have been going on for a number of lifetimes has brought about a little more clarity, that's all.
Clarity of thinking comes from purification of one's emotions, which is a difficult job that needs to be done. But it can only be done successfully when it isn't an emotional upheaval, but clearcut, straightforward work that one does on oneself. When it is considered to be just that, it takes the sting out of it. The charge of "I'm so wonderful" or "I'm so terrible" is defused. We are neither wonderful nor terrible. Everyone is a human being with all the potential and all the obstructions. If one can love that human being, the one that is "me" with all its faculties and tendencies, then one can love others realistically, usefully and helpfully. But if one makes a break in the middle and loves the part which is nice and dislikes the part which isn't nice enough, one's never going to come to grips with reality. One day we'll have to see it, for what it is. It's a "working ground", a kammatthana. It's a straightforward and interesting affair of one's own heart.
If we look at ourselves in that manner, we will learn to love ourselves in a wholesome way. "Just as a mother at the risk of life, loves and protects her child..." Become your own mother! If we want to have a relationship with ourselves that is realistic and conducive to growth, then we need to become our own mother. A sensible mother can distinguish between that which is useful for her child and that which is detrimental. But she doesn't stop loving the child when it misbehaves. This may be the most important aspect to look at in ourselves. Everyone, at one time or another, misbehaves in thought or speech or action. Most frequently in thought, fairly frequently in speech and not so often in action. So what do we do with that? What does a mother do? She tells the child not to do it again, loves the child as much as she's always loved it and just gets on with the job of bringing up her child. Maybe we can start to bring up ourselves.
The whole of this training is a matter of maturing. Maturity is wisdom, which is unfortunately not connected to age. If it were, it would be very easy. One would have a guarantee. Since it isn't it's hard work, a job to be done. First comes recognition, then learning not to condemn, but to understand: "This is the way it is." the third step is change. Recognition may be the hardest part for most people, it's not easy to see what goes on inside of oneself. This is the most important and the most interesting aspect of contemplation.
We lead a contemplative life, but that does not mean we sit in meditation all day long. A contemplative life means that one considers every aspect of what happens as part of a learning experience. One remains introspective under all circumstances. When one becomes outgoing, with what the Buddha termed "exuberance of youth," one goes to the world with one's thoughts, speech and action. One needs to recollect oneself and return within. A contemplative life in some orders is a life of prayer. In our way it's a combination of meditation and life-style. The contemplative life goes on inside of oneself. One can do the same thing with or without recollection. Contemplation is the most important aspect of introspection. It isn't necessary to sit still all day and watch one's breath. Every move, every thought, every word can give rise to understanding oneself.
This kind of work on oneself will bring about deep inner security, which is rooted in reality. Most people are wishing and hoping for this kind of security, but are not even able to voice their longing. Living in a myth, constantly hoping or being afraid is opposed to having inner strength. The feeling of security arises when one sees reality inside of oneself and thereby the reality in everyone else and comes to terms with it.
Let us accept the fact that the Buddha knew the truth when he said everybody had seven underlying tendencies: sensual desire, ill-will, speculative views, skeptical doubt, conceit, craving for continued existence, ignorance. Find them in yourself. Smile at them, do not burst into tears because of them. Smile and say: "Well, there you are. I'll do something about you."
The contemplative life is often lived heavy-handedly. A certain lack of joy is compensated for by being outgoing. This doesn't work. One should cultivate a certain light-heartedness, but stay within oneself. There's nothing to be worried or fearful about, nothing that is too difficult. Dhamma means the law of nature and we are manifesting this law of nature all the time. What can there be to get away from? We cannot escape the law of nature. Wherever we are, we are the Dhamma, we are impermanent (anicca), unfulfilled (dukkha), of no core-substance (anatta). It doesn't matter whether we sit here or on the moon. It's always the same. So we need a light-hearted approach to our own difficulties and those of everyone else, but not exuberance and outpouring. Rather a constant inwardness, which contains a bit of amusement. This works best. If one has a sense of humor about oneself, it is much easier to love oneself properly. It's also much easier to love everybody else.
There used to be a television show in America, called "People are Funny." We do have the oddest reactions. When they are analyzed and taken apart, they are often found to be absurd. We have very strange desires and wishes and unrealistic images of ourselves. It's quite true, "people are funny," so why not see that side of oneself? It makes it easier to accept that which we find so unacceptable in ourselves and others.
There is one aspect of human life which we cannot change, namely, that it keeps on happening moment after moment. We've all been meditating here for some time. What does the world care? It just keeps on going. The only one who cares, who gets perturbed, is our own heart and mind. When there is perturbance, upheaval, unreality and absurdity, then there is also unhappiness. This is quite unnecessary. Everything just is. If we learn to approach all happenings with more equanimity by being accepting, then the work of purification is much easier. This is our work, our own purification, and it can only be done by each one for himself.
One of the best aspects about it is that if one remembers what one is doing, keeps at it day after day without forgetting and continues to meditate, not expecting great results, little by little it does happen. That too, just is. As one keeps working at it, there is a constant chipping away at the defilements and at the unreal thinking, because there is no happiness in that and few want to hang on to unhappiness. Eventually one runs out of things to do outside of oneself. The books are all saying the same things, the letters have all been written, the flowers have all been watered, there's nothing left except to look inside. As this happens again and again, a change takes place. It may be slow, but when we have been here so many lifetimes, what's a day, a month, a year, ten years? They're all just happening.
There's nothing else to do and there's nowhere else to go. The earth is moving in a circle, life is moving from birth to death without us having to move at all. It's all happening without our help. The only thing we need to do is to get to reality. Then when we do, we will find that loving ourselves and loving others is a natural outcome of that. Because we are concerned with reality and that is the heart's real work -- to love. But only if we've also seen the other side of the coin in ourselves and have done the work of purification. Then it is no longer an effort or a deliberate attempt, but it becomes a natural function of our inner feelings, inward directed but shining outward.
The inward direction is an important aspect of our contemplative life. Whatever happens inwardly has direct repercussions on what takes place outwardly. The inner light and purity cannot be hidden, nor can the defilements.
We sometimes think we can portray something we are not. That is not possible. The Buddha said that one only knows a person after having heard him speak many times and having lived with him for a long time. People generally try to show themselves off as something better than they really are. Then, of course, they become disappointed in themselves when they fail, and equally disappointed in others. To realistically know oneself makes it possible to truly love. That kind of feeling gives the light-heartedness to this job in which we're engaged, which is needed. By accepting ourselves and others as we truly are, our job of purification, chipping away at the defilements, is made much easier.

Gathering of Styles is a combination of showcased artwork and an art “get down”. Our goal is to bring the essence back into the “Gathering of Nations”. Powwows are supposed to be a social gathering that is backed by community support, traditional song, dance, creativity and self-expression.

Unfortunately, Indians are romanticized and exploited and Gathering of Nations is no exception. As young folks we see the need to come together and bring the flava back, bring that essence of powwow back but do it in a beautiful and authentic way. Our hope is to create an event that is not the typical "Gatherings" shin-dig.

There will be an art exhibition to honor the Kiowa 5. This year we are recognizing the Kiowa 5 for laying the foundation, paying dues and paving the way for indigenous art. In appreciation for all their hard work and accomplishment we will show our love and respect through artwork & self expression with an indigenous flava.

Other events will include artists showcases, live music, live art, dance exhibitions and a red (community) market.

We want to provide space for indigenous hustlers. The idea behind the "red market" is to provide a conscious indigenous marketplace not a corporate one. The goal of red market is to provide a space for the community to come together and support one another.

Lastly this is a FREE event we are not charging to vend or get into the jam.
If you have homies that would like vend please spread the word.

Sneaking can be learned through rigorous training, refer to this article on how to sneak. To become good at sneaking and stalking simply takes practice and learning how to move swiftly and quietly on any surface and environment. Practice makes perfect stands true here.

Evading capture requires you knowing your environment and where you are better than the people chasing you, and putting your resources to good use. Its very important for ninja to be very fit, you want to be able to sprint and keep moving very quickly for long periods of time. Parkour is an excellent way to train evasion techniques. Almost nobody will be able to keep up with someone who is able to scale a 10ft wall within 3 seconds. Refer to this article on parkour training for ninjas for a more detailed explanation of how to apply parkour to your training.

Avoiding detection is simply a combination of knowing how to sneak and your environment, if you are doing surveillance on an area make sure that you know how the guards move and when they take breaks. Avoiding detection means using your environment to your advantage, wait until the guards go for a break – make a distraction so that they move to check it out. This take creativity and you will get better at it as you apply it. Other methods include using unconventional entry strategies. Being good at rock climbing and being good at parkour are two things that a modern ninja will benefit from greatly. Almost nobody will expect you to climb up through an open window or some other exposed entrance. Stay safe and use it wisely.

Combat is an important skill, not only for ninjas but for survival in general. Hopefully you will never be in a situation where you need to apply force to escape but being good at martial arts will save your butt in many instances when things go wrong. This doesn’t only apply to being a ninja but life in general, if you are walking home late at night and you are approached by some shady characters, you can either try and run or fight. If you can’t run and they are looking for a fight, then you only have one option. I suggest you read my fighting and martial arts article. Specific martial arts that are useful in real life and that have genuine carry over are muay thai, Brazilian jui jitsu and boxing. Most other martial arts are a sport and aren’t designed for real combat. Muay thai involves training your body to be able to take hit and deliver vicious hits with your head, elbows, hands, knees and shins – search a muay thai video and you will find out why this is one of the most practical martial arts that exists.

Interpersonal skills, being able to lie your way out of situations and lie your way into places you aren’t meant to be is a very useful skill to have. Social engineering and the ability to lie and detect lies is absolutely invaluable, if someone asks you why you are somewhere you aren’t meant to be, getting caught lying is definitely not something that you want. Refer to the article on how to tell if someone is lying for a more thorough guide and tips on how to detect liars. Charisma and a smile are also very important and highly overlooked. Saying thank you and please will get you very far, always smile and always be polite – people want to be nice to those who are polite to them. If you want something from someone and they are working a boring job, chances are your politeness will stand out to them and they will be more inclined to give you want you want. Try it out, it really works.

Having a broad knowledge in many areas means that you can talk at length on many topics and that you know a lot about the world. Its important to be knowledgeable as you will often find yourself in situations where you will need to talk your way into or out of something. Stay up to date with current world events and read all the classic books that you can get your hands on. Developing a large vocabulary and having a lot of general knowledge is never a bad thing.

Being able to disguise yourself and stick to a personality that isn’t you real one takes significant skill – not many people are able to switch in and out of different personalities very easily. It takes a while to master this, and being able to lie and having a high level of general knowledge will equip you well for slipping in and out of different disguises and persona’s to establish your reasons for being places you aren’t meant to be, or to gain knowledge you aren’t mean to know. If you assert yourself as a person of power in a company – and you are on the phone to an employee who doesn’t know you personally, chances are that if you are convincing and a master of disguise and all your research and surveillance is done correctly… the person on the other end of the phone is going to tell you anything you want to know. Happy Thai New Year!

Songkran is the Thai New Year in Thailand,
Also celebrated in Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar, Vietnam, Sri Lanka and in the east of India.

Songkran is a Sanskrit word. Means of mobility. A likeness of the movement of the universe set. Or is moving in the New Year and beliefs of some countries in Southeast Asia called "foreign" water wars.

The first day of the festival, a day to lift the sun into Aries (Moving from Pisces to Aries, called "Day Mhasgkrants" days later "Wannena" and last day, a day Hulsakrach change and start using new Kaloic annual "New Year's day" from the above principles. Songkran Festival, now often with the date April 14-16 (with the exception of some years such as Year 2551 Year 2555 and the return match Songkran Day April 13-15) in the Thai calendar, however, now make Songkran Festival April 13-15 match of the day every year and public holidays.

Songkran is Thailand's oldest traditions, the ancient heritage with traditional New Year double. Have been collectively. Thai New Year Songkran Festival Means New Year's Eve tradition. And welcome the new year. Tamil New Year is the word. Means the end of the year.

Songkran is a ritual ceremony that occurred within the family or community, but now times have change to include all of society. it was small, but ended up being really cool.
i enjoyed the weather & enterainment.

First Friday was fun as always.
check the fb photo album
we got DJ Element to rock the tables for us so the vibe was extra chill

i went across the street to get pizza,
it was good to see alot more vendors out there.
i also caught this sweet street performer.

we moved down a little ways but got a bigger space maybe next month
we will get some live art going on down there.
or get some more artists to show & sell some stuff
so if you missed it come out next month, its the place to be, but come early, the cops cut the music off promptly at 10pm

we went over to check the homie Brez and Indian Ink II going on at Pravus - it was the dopeness

the art detour is going on next weekend March 19-20
so stop by Pravus @ 5th Street & Roosevelt if u like

ahhh THIS weekend March 12-13 is the AZ Aloha Festival

it keeps gettng bigger and its the best
great eats, great people, & great earrings everywhere.
